Job brief

The Mission

Nomad is seeking a Director of Operations — a field-tested operator who can take command of active projects, systems, and contractors, executing flawlessly without a ready-made team behind them.

This role isn’t about managing staff — it’s about managing outcomes.
You’ll act as the central control tower, ensuring every commitment made by Nomad is executed with speed, precision, and accountability.

If you thrive in high-stakes environments, can juggle five moving fronts without losing composure, and know how to leverage both people and AI tools to get results — you’re the one we want.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities

Operational Execution

  • Translate leadership strategy into structured, trackable execution plans.
  • Maintain day-to-day momentum across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Drive accountability across vendors, developers, and subcontractors.
  • Use AI and automation tools to optimize reporting, scheduling, and communication.

Project & Infrastructure Management

  • Oversee end-to-end delivery for projects in technology, construction, security, housing, and infrastructure.
  • Manage digital builds (apps, websites, platforms) alongside physical deployments (IT, camera, access control).
  • Coordinate directly with vendors, contractors, and specialists — ensuring alignment, documentation, and quality.
  • Anticipate logistical issues and solve them before they escalate.
  • Prepare and maintain project scopes, budgets, and reports for executive review.
  • Enforce QA standards, safety protocols, deadlines, and compliance across every project type.

Client & Partner Coordination

  • Serve as the operational point of contact for clients and strategic partners.
  • Communicate clearly, professionally, and proactively.
  • Protect relationships through reliability and transparency.

Administrative & Budget Coordination

  • Create and manage project budgets, schedules, and cost forecasts.
  • Track milestones, expenditures, and deliverable status for reporting.
  • Maintain internal project documentation and records for executive and accounting reference.

Systems & Process Control

  • Design, document, and refine Nomad’s internal systems (the “NomadOS”).
  • Implement AI-driven workflows and automations to increase efficiency.
  • Standardize project templates, reports, and deliverable tracking.
  • Build the operational foundation for future staff so scaling becomes seamless.

Requirements

Who You Are

  • Highly self-directed: you don’t need daily oversight; you thrive on autonomy.
  • Operationally omnivorous: comfortable jumping between IT installs, housing projects, and app launches.
  • Technically literate: you can talk intelligently with both engineers and electricians.
  • AI-fluent: adept at using tools like ChatGPT, ClickUp AI, Notion AI, or other automation platforms.
  • Exceptionally organized: you build order out of chaos and never drop details.
  • Emotionally disciplined: steady under fire, unflappable in ambiguity.
  • Loyal and discreet: you protect the mission, the brand, and the leadership’s time.

This is not a “corporate COO” seat — it’s a command post for someone who can operate independently, think strategically, and execute relentlessly.

Non-Negotiables

  • Integrity and confidentiality are mandatory. You’ll be entrusted with sensitive data and client communications.
  • Loyalty and long-term commitment are expected — this is not a side gig.
  • Results over titles. Precision over ego.

Required Experience

  • 8 + years in operations, senior project management, or cross-sector delivery (construction, IT, consulting, or infrastructure).
  • Proven record leading multidisciplinary projects independently.
  • Deep working knowledge of project and collaboration tools (Freedcamp, Notion, ClickUp, Asana, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience using AI tools for planning, documentation, and reporting.
  • Exceptional communication and documentation discipline.
  • Experience working with Indigenous or municipal clients is an asset.

Compensation & Path

  • Competitive retainer starting at $6,000/month, increasing to $8,000/month based on performance milestones.
  • High performers will have a path to full-time COO-track conversion ($100K–$120K/year + performance bonuses).
  • Long-term: COO-track role contingent on trust, results, and operational excellence.

To Apply

Send:

  1. Resume or portfolio demonstrating operational leadership across multiple project types.
  2. A one-page brief titled “How I Bring Order to Chaos.”
Describe one situation where you stabilized or delivered a complex project under pressure — with measurable outcomes.
  3. (Optional but powerful) Define what loyalty means to you in leadership.
